Basic Life Support Certification & Renewal Training
This course is intended for licensed healthcare professionals who need to learn the current American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for CPR/AED and other life-threatening emergencies and needs a course completion card to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, CNA, healthcare program students, EMTs, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and more are required to have BLS certification. Upon completion of the BLS classes and passing the written and skills test, the American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card will be issued to you the same day. The completion card is valid for two years.
E-Learning (online) courses are available for all but the skills test portion. Please scroll down to the Frequently Asked Questions section on this page to learn more about on-line courses. Who should take this course?
Healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in- and out- of hospital settings. This includes nurses, CNA, physicians, EMS professionals, medical or nursing students in a healthcare program, allied health professionals (physical therapists, occupational therapist, athletic trainers, dental etc.) and others who may need training in basic life support skills.
What is the classroom format?
This is an instructor led course including provision of the AHA BLS Healthcare Provider student manual, simulated clinical scenarios with hands-on skills practice and skills testing. In addition, a written exam issued by the AHA is required. This is to be completed during class time. The entire course takes about 4.0 to 4.5 hours.
Can I take an on-line course?
Yes. AHA eLearning online module is acceptable but this is only Part 1 of 3 to complete the entire course. The on-line component provides you the flexible and alternate option to attend the full class room session. The AHA eLearning course includes the cognitive and written test portion at a self-directed pace. You still need to complete Part 2, hands-on skills practice and Part 3, hands-on skills testing in order to receive your Course Completion Card. Make sure you select BLS-Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1. The Part 1 course fee is through AHA and there is an additional charge for skills practice and skills test. The on-line course takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Upon receipt of your Part 1 certificate, please contact us to schedule your hands-on skills practice and testing. You have 60 days from your Part 1 completion date to do the skills practice and testing. The actual time to complete Parts 2 & 3 skills sessions varies but typically takes about 60-90 minutes per student.
BLS for Healthcare Providers student manual will not be provided if you are taking the AHA online portion. This course may be used for initial or renewal BLS for Healthcare Providers Course completion.
Does BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR qualifies for continuing education (CE/CNE) for nurses?
No, California State Board of Nursing does not accept continuing education credits for CPR and BLS training. http://www.rn.ca.gov/licensees/ce-renewal.shtml
AHA does not offer continuing education credits for BLS Healthcare Providers Course as this is often part of the basic education requirement and qualification for employment.

What happens if I lost my card or my card got damaged?
We will gladly replace your card. Please contact us or call us at 877-479-7338. We will need the course type and the date you took it so we could cross reference your information. There is a $20.00 charge for your replacement card. Your card will be mailed to you but if you need your card urgently, we encourage you to come by and pick it up.
