DESCRIPTION
This course provides an overview of postural supports and restraints, and the appropriateness of using such devices in long term care. By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the types of postural supports commonly used in long term care, and the risks associated with each type
- Understand the proper use and misuse of postural supports and when a support would be considered a restraint
- Describe goals for proper posture and positioning of non-ambulatory and bedridden residents and optimal techniques for assisting with their mobility and/or repositioning.
This course is intended to contribute to caregiver and/or staff training. Participants must complete a final exam with 80% or above; may re-take exam as many times as needed in order to pass.
