Description

This course was developed to contribute to caregiver training in the area of emergency response, basic first aid, and personal care services.  It is also intended to contribute to compliance with California Title 22 Regulations, which require that staff providing care  in an assisted living / residential care facility for the elderly shall receive appropriate training in first aid from persons qualified by such agencies as the American Red Cross. The author and developer of this course, Angie Jung, RN, BSN, CRRN, CCM, is a registered nurse and approved First Aid, CPR, AED, and BLS instructor through the American Heart Association.

Objectives of this course include: recognize your responsibilities in providing first aid; identify what constitutes a medical emergency and the steps to performing basic first aid; and describe the characteristics and first aid responses to some of the common medical emergencies experienced by dependent older adults.

Participants must pass the final quiz with 80% or more and may re-take the quiz as often as needed.

It is recommended that this course be re-taken every 2 years for individuals working with older and/or dependent adults.

Note:  While this course provides the caregiver and staff training content required by state regulations, it does not include a hands-on “skills test”, which is required to become officially certified.
