This course covers age-related changes that occur in the physiology of older adults and how these changes can greatly impact the nutritional needs of those living in a long-term care facility. By taking this course, learners will be able to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Recognize the physiological, psychological, and environmental factors that can influence the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  2. Identify nutritional complications that are commonly associated with older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  3. Describe how nutrition therapy can be applied to improve the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  4. List appropriate techniques to improve the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  5. Identify techniques that apply compassion, empathy and cultural sensitivity to nutritional interventions for older adults living in long-term care facilities.

This program has been approved for Continuing Education for 1.25 total participant hours by NAB/NCERS—Approval #20240718-1.25-A94818-DL. This course applies to the following professions:

  • Nursing Home Administrators (all states)
  • Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrators (most states)

Learners must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed.

States that do not accept NAB/NCERS approval for assisted living include California, District of Columbia, Maryland, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Washington. It is your responsibility to verify that your state board will accept continuing education credits approved by NAB.
