This course provides an overview of medications commonly prescribed for persons with dementia and their impacts. By the end of this course learners will be able to: 1) define dementia, 2) explain why medications are sometimes needed to manage symptoms caused by dementia, 3) state 3 types of commonly prescribed medications for persons with dementia and why they are used, 4) describe 3 common side effects of commonly prescribed medications for persons with dementia, and 5) discuss the risks involved in the use of anti-psychotic or psychotropic medications for persons with dementia. Course is approved for 1.0 CEUs/contact hours for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) in California. Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2023.
