DESCRIPTION
This is an advanced course on alcohol use disorder. Course objectives are:
- Define alcohol use disorder and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria used to diagnose alcohol use disorder.
- Define key terms and differentiate the terms alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence.
- Recognize risk and protective factors and common complications associated with alcohol misuse.
- Discuss some of the tools and criteria used to screen for alcohol use disorder.
- Identify some of the effective prevention and treatment interventions for alcohol use disorder
- Identify common alcohol withdrawal symptoms and review clinical management of acute alcohol withdrawal.
Approved for 3.0 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Certified Case Managers (CCM)
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC)
- Social Workers (NASW)
- California Workers’ Comp Claims Adjusters (WC CA)
Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2027.
