This course provides an advanced overview of child abuse and reporting requirements for healthcare professionals.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Define types of child abuse.
  • Explain the physiological and psychological response to trauma.
  • Recognize physical and emotional signs of abuse.
  • Discuss the nursing implications and reporting requirement when caring for a child who is a victim of abuse.
  • Describe specific guidance on recognizing abuse or neglect in children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Continuing Education Credits

This course is approved for 2.5 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
  • Certified Case Managers (CCM)
  • Social Workers (NASW)

Course Details

To receive 2.5 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
