DESCRIPTION
This course will provide you with an in depth understanding of the effects dementia has a on a person’s communication and strategies for improved communication with a person with dementia. By the end of this course learners will be able to:
- Explain the pathology of dementia and the physical changes that occur in the brain that affect communication.
- Describe why good communication skills are necessary in caring for the person with dementia.
- Describe the changes in communication patterns that occur through the stages of dementia progression.
- List strategies to effectively facilitate communication with a person with dementia.
- Identify tips to proactively communicate with family members of the person with dementia.

- Nursing Home Administrators (all states)
- Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrators (most states)
