This course provides an advanced overview of Respiratory Infections in the Long Term Care Setting. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify some unique factors which may lead to the prevalence of respiratory infections in long term care facilities.
  • Describe the basic anatomy of the respiratory system.
  • Describe common diseases of the respiratory tract and predispose for respiratory infections.
  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of respiratory infections in long term care settings.
  • Recognize common types of respiratory infections in the long term care setting.
  • Identify consequences specific to respiratory infections to residents, healthcare workers, and society in general.
  • List some resources and tools to prevent the spread of respiratory infections in long term care facilities.
