DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this course is to increase the awareness of healthcare professionals regarding workplace impairment.

Workplace Impairment is a required continuing education topic for nurses in the state of Florida.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe workplace impairment in the healthcare field and its impact on healthcare professionals.
  • Describe the regulatory and professional bodies addressing impaired professionals in the healthcare workforce.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of workplace impairment.
  • Identify the appropriate course of action to follow upon identification of an impaired healthcare professional.
  • Outline the process for treatment of an impaired healthcare professional.
  • Summarize employer initiatives and responsibilities in relation to impaired healthcare professional programs.

Continuing Education Credits

This course is approved for 2.5 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
    • Advanced Practice RN (APRN): This course includes 2.5 pharmacotherapeutic contact hours
  • Certified Case Managers (CCM)
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC)
  • Social Workers (NASW)

Course Details

To receive 2.5 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
