By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the basic understanding diabetes and factors affecting management of diabetes in older adults.
  • Identify the main goals of diabetic medication management.
  • Describe the various methods of insulin administration, different types of insulin, and the rationale behind sliding scale prescription.
  • Identify at least two types of oral medication for management of diabetes.
  • Recognize the limitations and restrictions in caring for persons with diabetes living in a licensed assisted living or other residential care facility.
