DESCRIPTION

This course covers age-related changes that occur in the physiology of older adults and how these changes can greatly impact the nutritional needs of those living in a long-term care facility. By taking this course, learners will be able to achieve the following objectives:

  • Rrecognize the physiological, psychological, and environmental factors that can influence the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  • Identify nutritional complications that are commonly associated with older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  • Describe how nutrition therapy can be applied to improve the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  • List appropriate techniques to improve the nutritional status of older adults living in long-term care facilities.
  • Identify techniques that apply compassion, empathy and cultural sensitivity to nutritional interventions for older adults living in long-term care facilities.

This course is approved for 1.0 CE/Contact Hour for:

  • California RCFE Administrators
  • California Nurses (CA BRN)

To receive credit, participant must pass the final exam with a score of 80% or more (exam may be retaken as often as needed).
