DESCRIPTION
This advanced course on Diabetes Mellitus: Pathophysiology can be taken as Part 1 of a series or on its own. Course objectives are:
- Provide the general definition of diabetes and explain the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
- Describe the normal metabolism of carbohydrates and how this is influenced by diabetes.
- Compare the pathogenesis and incidence of Diabetes Type 1 and Diabetes Type 2.
- Describe the cause and characteristics of some of the common diabetic crises.
- Describe the macrovascular and microvascular effects of chronic hyperglycemia.
- List the generally recommended diabetic management guidelines.
Approved for 3.0 CE/Contact Hours for Nurses (all states) & CA Workers’ Comp Claims Adjusters. Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2027.
