DESCRIPTION

Course Objectives

This is an advanced course on alcohol use disorder. By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Define alcohol use disorder and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5 TR) criteria used to diagnose alcohol use disorder.
  • Define key terms and differentiate the terms alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence.
  • Recognize risk and protective factors and common complications associated with alcohol misuse.
  • Discuss some of the tools and criteria used to screen for alcohol use disorder.
  • Identify some of the effective prevention and treatment interventions for alcohol use disorder.
  • Identify common alcohol withdrawal symptoms and review clinical management of acute alcohol withdrawal.

This course is approved for 3.0 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
  • Certified Case Managers (CCM)

Course Details

To receive 3.0 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
