Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the procedure and resultant anatomy for major types of ostomy surgery.
  • Identify at least two professional certifications that specialize in ostomy care.
  • Recognize pre and post-operative ostomy considerations.
  • Describe patient teaching and discharge planning components necessary to facilitate successful transition from the hospital.

This course is approved for 4.0 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
    • Advanced Practice RN (APRN): This course includes 1.0 pharmacotherapeutic contact hours
    • Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category A

To receive 4.0 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
