DESCRIPTION
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify some unique factors which may lead to the prevalence of respiratory infections in long term care facilities.
- Describe the basic anatomy of the respiratory system.
- Describe common diseases of the respiratory tract and predispose for respiratory infections.
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of respiratory infections in long term care settings.
- Recognize common types of respiratory infections in the long term care setting.
- Identify consequences specific to respiratory infections to residents, healthcare workers, and society in general.
- List some resources and tools to prevent the spread of respiratory infections in long term care facilities.
Continuing Education Credits
This course is approved for 4.5 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Advanced Practice RN (APRN): This course includes 1.5 pharmacotherapeutic contact hours
- Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category B
- Certified Case Managers (CCM)
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC)
Course Details
To receive 4.5 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
