DESCRIPTION
This course provides an advanced overview of Respiratory Infections in the Long Term Care Setting. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify some unique factors which may lead to the prevalence of respiratory infections in long term care facilities
- Describe the basic anatomy of the respiratory system
- Describe common diseases of the respiratory tract and predispose for respiratory infections
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of respiratory infections in long term care settings
- Recognize common types of respiratory infections in the long term care setting
- Identify consequences specific to respiratory infections to residents, healthcare workers, and society in general
- List some resources and tools to prevent the spread of respiratory infections in long term care facilities.
Course is approved for 4.5 CE/Contact Hours to the following professions:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Advanced Practice RN (APRN): This course includes 1.5 pharmacotherapeutic contact hours.
- Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category B
- Certified Case Managers (CCM)
- Certified Rehab Counselors (CRC)
Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2027.
