DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this course is to familiarize healthcare professionals with the effects of stress on the brain and body and to provide tools for the prevention of caregiver burnout.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Define the general concept of stress.
  • Describe three effects of chronic stress on the brain.
  • Outline three effects of chronic stress on the body systems.
  • Explain three potential strategies that may be used for self-care & with individuals in order to decrease the negative effects of chronic stress.

This course is approved for 1.0 CE/Contact Hour for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
    • Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category C

  • Social Workers (NASW)

Course Details

To receive 1.0 contact hour of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
