DESCRIPTION
This course provides an advanced overview of latex and its allergenic properties.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe latex and how it is made.
- Identify potential allergens at home and in the workplace.
- Recognize prevalence of latex allergies, risk factors for latex sensitivity, and populations with a greater risk for acquiring latex allergies.
- Identify types of lates reactions and treatment options.
- Explain factors impacting diagnosis of latex allergies.
- List guidelines for managing and preventing latex allergies in the workplace, including guidelines for preventative measures in hospital and outpatient settings and recommended guidelines for the safety of healthcare workers and patients .
Continuing Education Credits
This course is approved for 2.5 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category A

Course Details
To receive 2.5 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
