DESCRIPTION
This is an advanced course on substance use disorder. Course objectives are:
- Define substance use disorder and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria used to diagnose substance use disorder
- Define key terms and differentiate the terms substance dependence, substance abuse, and addiction
- Recognize risk and protective factors for substance use disorder
- Identify some of the commonly abused drugs in the United States today as well as their withdrawal symptoms and treatment
- Identify principles of effective assessment and drug addiction treatment.
Approved for 2.5 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Advanced Practice RN (APRN): This course includes 2.5 pharmacotherapeutic contact hours.
- Critical Care RN (CCRN): meets the criteria for CCRN Synergy Continuing Education Recognition Point(s) (CERPS) in Category A
- Certified Case Managers (CCM)
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
- Social Workers (NASW)
- California Workers’ Comp Claims Adjusters (WC CA)
Must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2027.
