Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss the structure, types of neurons, and neural transmission in the human body.
  • Describe the anatomy of the central nervous system.
  • Describe the anatomy of the brain, including the cranial nerves.
  • Discuss spinal cord anatomy and physiology, including reflexes and central nervous system pathways.
  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral nervous system, including the autonomic and somatic branches.
  • Discuss the functional anatomy of the autonomic nervous system and its branches—the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems.
  • Discuss sensory and motor input, feedback, and integration for purposeful movement within the somatic nervous system.

This course is approved for 1.0 CE/Contact Hour for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) in California.
