DESCRIPTION
This advanced course on diabetes diet management can be taken as Part 3 of a series or on its own.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe how the intake of dietary carbohydrates can have a direct influence on an individual’s blood glucose levels.
- Discuss medical nutrition therapy in the management of type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.
- Discuss how to maintain the pleasure of eating through healthy food choices related to carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and fiber.
- Identify how to actively engage individuals with diabetes in education, self-management, and treatment planning to achieve medical nutrition therapy goals to prevent, delay, or treat comorbidities associated with diabetes.
- Identify tools for assisting individuals with diabetes to develop healthy eating patterns as opposed to focusing on single food choices or nutrients.
Continuing Education Credits
Approved for 4.0 CE/Contact Hours for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) in Florida.
