Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Outline techniques to build rapport with patients prior and during a physical assessment.
  • State elements of Therapeutic Communication that enhance the assessment process.
  • Discuss the need to address special considerations in physical assessment, including cultural sensitivity, the impact of the aging process, and communication barriers.
  • Describe the significance and key components of a health and family history, lifestyle and health practices, and present illness during a patient interview.
  • Describe physical examination techniques for the musculoskeletal system, including inspection, palpation, and manipulation.

This course is approved for 3.0 CE/Contact Hours for the following professions:

  • Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
  • Certified Case Manager (CCM)
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
  • California Workers Compensation Claims Adjusters (WC CA)

Course Details

To receive 3.0 contact hours of continuing education credit, learners must pass the final quiz with 80% or more; the final quiz may be re-taken as often as needed.
