Description
This course will provide you with an in depth understanding of the effects dementia has a on a person’s communication and strategies for improved communication with a person with dementia. By the end of this course learners will be able to: explain the pathology of dementia and the physical changes that occur in the brain that affect communication; describe why good communication skills are necessary in caring for the person with dementia; describe the changes in communication patterns that occur through the stages of dementia progression; list strategies to effectively facilitate communication with a person with dementia; and identify tips to proactively communicate with family members of the person with dementia.
Course is approved for 3.0 CE/Contact Hours for the following profession:
- Nurses (RN, LVN, LPN) (all states)
- Certified Case Managers (CCM)
- Certified Rehab Counselors (CRC)
- Social Workers (NASW)
Learners must pass final quiz with 80% or more; may re-take as often as needed. Course will be updated or discontinued on or before July 31, 2027.
