Everything you need to know, with resources straight from CCMC.
As a Certified Case Manager (CCM), staying current in your field is more than a requirement, it’s part of your commitment to quality, ethical, and informed care. But navigating the CCMC renewal process can raise questions. This FAQ is here to help you plan, avoid missteps, and renew with confidence.
How often do I need to renew my CCM certification?
Every five years following your initial certification. Check your “valid through” date on your certificate or log in to view in your CCMC Dashboard: https://ccmcertification.org/login
What are my options for renewal?
There are two pathways:
- Continuing Education (CE): Upload documentation for 80 CE hours, including 8 hours in ethics.
- Re-Examination: Apply to retake the CCM exam before your certification expires.

What counts as appropriate continuing education?
CE activities must:
- Be at least one hour in length
- Relate to one or more CCMC focus areas
- Occur within your current 5-year cycle
Review the full criteria for appropriate continuing education in the Renewal Guide.
What are the ethics requirements?
CCMC requires 8 ethics CE hours (10% of the 80-hour total). These must address the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct.
More info: Ethics CE Requirement
What’s the difference between pre-approved and post-approved CE?
- Pre-Approved CE: Already accepted by CCMC (no additional fee).
- Post-Approved CE: Requires submission + $15 non-refundable fee per course.

Is renewal done online?
Yes. All CCM renewals are processed through your CCMC Dashboard.
You can upload CE documentation, view your transcript, and submit your application there.
Download the Renewal Guide.
What if I miss my renewal deadline?
CCMC offers a 90-day late renewal window with documentation and a $175 administrative fee. You must show:
- All 80 CE hours were completed before expiration
- A valid license or qualifying degree
- A documented, compelling reason for the delay
See more information on late renewal requests.
Can I carry over extra CE hours to my next cycle?
No. CE hours must be earned within your current 5-year certification cycle and cannot be rolled over.
